The mossy woodlands and dramatic peaks around Portland, Oregon, inspired the design of the 2007 Country Home Show Home, where earth-friendly attitude mixes with fresh country style.
THE BIG IDEA
Bring nature indoors with colors that harmonize with the landscape. “Part of country style is looking outside for inspiration,” says Senior Home Editor Beth Eslinger. “For this house, we picked up on the colors of the mountains and sky, as well as the woodsy environment.”
THE PALETTE
Lofty rooms are brought down to earth with walls colored in a textural pigment plaster that creates a warm, neutral background for this woodland-influenced decorating scheme. Lots of Jeld-Wen windows and glass doors—including the 8-foot entry door—open up every room to the verdant setting.
THE TIP
No matter what color—or colors—you have in a room, an antique rug pulls the whole room together. Use remnants or small prayer rugs to cover pillow fronts or ottomans, or hang them on the wall for textural artwork.
